Dirt Devil filters range in availability from standard to top of the line filters like that of the F1 filter.  The F1 dirt devil filters are a line of filters specifically designed for the upright, bag-less models and are equipped with what are called HEPA filters.  The HEPA technology is essentially filters made from fiberglass that enable the capability of trapping dust particles as small as .3 microns.

Microns refer to the size of the individual dust particle which means an F1 filter has the ability to trap particles as small as three ten thousands of an inch in diameter.  This in turn means that particles such as tiny as dust, pollen, dust mites, mold spores, ragweed and even smoke are sucked in by the vacuum and never returned back into the room’s air.  The standard dirt devil filters commonly used with the vacuums featuring bags are not enhanced with the HEPA technology as it is particularly difficult to prevent all dust particles from returning back into the room while using bags.
